PetroSats is an informational dashboard for comparing Bitcoin with energy and commodity markets. It is not investment advice and does not represent executable prices.

Calculation

For each commodity, sats per unit is calculated as:

USD commodity price / BTC USD price * 100,000,000

Results are rounded down to the nearest satoshi. Units are normalized before calculation, including pounds, bushels, gallons, ounces, and metric tonnes.

Sources and timing

Bitcoin spot pricing uses Bitfinex with CoinGecko and CoinCap fallbacks. WTI, Brent, natural gas, gasoline, heating oil, and uranium use U.S. Energy Information Administration series. Other commodities use FRED series. Crypto data is intraday; many commodity series are daily or delayed.

Dashboard snapshots are cached for five minutes. The displayed timestamp is the snapshot fetch time in UTC, not necessarily the observation time of every underlying market.

Fallbacks and limitations

If an upstream source fails, the dashboard may retain the last good snapshot or use a configured fallback value. A fallback value is not a live quote. Always check the source and freshness indicators before using any figure.
